Rookie Sensation Jaydon Blue Cleared to Play in Cowboys’ Preseason Finale
The Dallas Cowboys received a major boost ahead of their preseason finale as rookie running back Jaydon Blue has been cleared to return after a nearly two-week absence with a heel bruise. Blue is set to make his preseason debut Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons, just in time to gear up for the regular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4.
Blue suffered the injury during an August 7 practice in Oxnard when a teammate accidentally stepped on his foot, sidelining him from practices and early preseason games. On Tuesday, however, the fifth-round pick from Texas returned to full participation in practice, confirming his readiness for action.
“I’m feeling great. I feel like I’m back to myself. I had to sit for the past two weeks. I’m just ready to get on the field and be able to play against a different team,” Blue said enthusiastically.
Before the injury setback, Blue had already impressed coaches and teammates during training camp. The rookie earned rare first-team reps and wowed observers with a one-handed catch that many called “the catch of the camp so far,” showcasing his athleticism and playmaking potential. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted that Blue had been “trending positively” toward a return, making his comeback highly anticipated.
Timing could not be better for the Cowboys. Their rushing attack has shown inconsistency in preseason play, notably gaining just 51 yards against the Baltimore Ravens—a sharp decline from 148 yards in the opener against the Los Angeles Rams. Blue’s speed, versatility, and ability to contribute as both a runner and receiver could provide the boost the backfield needs.
Competition for snaps remains tight, with veterans Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, along with rookie Phil Mafah, all vying for playing time. Blue, however, is ready to seize the opportunity.
“It felt great being back out here,” he said after practice. “I was having a great camp before I went down. I know a lot of these guys, and the coaches know what I can do on the football field. I’m just ready to showcase that in a game this Friday,” according to the Cowboys’ official website.
As Dallas prepares for their final preseason test, Blue’s return injects energy and optimism into a unit striving for consistency. His combination of resilience, skill, and playmaking ability makes him one of the most exciting players to watch as the Cowboys head into the 2025 season.
