“Felt Like We Were Getting Screwed”: Dave Portnoy Doesn’t Hold Back While Revealing Why Barstool Rejected Sophie Cunningham’s Show

Sophie Cunningham has a new podcast show. The WNBA guard and Summer House star West Wilson are both hosting a new podcast called Show Me Something.

The Cowherd-backed venture is described as “a fast-talking, no-rules show covering sports, pop culture, and everything in between.”

It turns out that the podcast actually had a chance to be a part of Barstool Sports.

It is even more shocking that it did not make it since Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy is an Indiana Fever fan.

According to Barstool Sports founder and owner Dave Portnoy, he would turn Sophie Cunningham down. He opened up on the topic on The Unnamed Show.

“Speaking of podcasts, one that I passed on, which I thought was going to happen, just went live,” Portnoy said.

“Sophie Cunningham, West Wilson. I passed on it. We spent a lot of time. They did a test podcast, these two, in our New York office. Then we had another host (try out).”

It just didn’t work for Barstool.

Portnoy revealed that Cunningham wasn’t the problem in the scenario; it was her agent and the stipulations demanded.

“It wasn’t so much her,” Portnoy said on the Barstool show.

“Anytime I have to deal with agents, it’s hard. I really thought we would be carrying so much of the weight marketing all this shit, and her focus wasn’t going to be the podcast, it was just one amongst 9,000 things she was doing. So it felt like we were getting screwed. So I, at the end, like we were ready to sign it, and at the end I’m like, ‘I’m not interested anymore.’”

Despite wishing them well, Portnoy admitted with a grin, “I like her, but I’m kind of rooting against it.”

When it comes to the face of the WNBA and the player taking the league to new heights, Cunningham minced no words.

Cunningham said people who don’t think Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA are “dumb as f—.”

“It literally pisses me off when people are like, ‘She’s not the face of the league,’” said Cunningham.

“We have a lot of badasses in our league, and hell yeah, I’m all for that, but when people try to argue that she’s not the face of our league or that our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as shit. You’re literally dumb as f—.”

She added that she has seen first-hand that some players in the league give Clark a tougher time on the court because of her stardom.

“Even when I wasn’t on her team, I know the talks that Phoenix had in the locker room, like, ‘No we’re gonna show her what the W really is,’” Cunningham revealed.
