Fever Predicted to Trade for WNBA Champion to Pair with Caitlin Clark
As the August 7 WNBA trade deadline approaches, the Indiana Fever could be preparing for a major move — one that could give Caitlin Clark a seasoned, championship-caliber running mate in the frontcourt.
According to ESPN’s Kevin Pelton, the Fever are predicted to pursue a deal for Myisha Hines-Allen, a 2019 WNBA champion with the Washington Mystics. Currently with the Dallas Wings, Hines-Allen has become somewhat expendable as Dallas shifts toward a younger, developmental core — opening the door for a potential trade.
A Sharpshooting Identity — Inspired by Clark
In 2024, the Fever found their identity behind the arc. Caitlin Clark’s arrival sparked a 3-point revolution in Indiana, with the team finishing third in the WNBA in 3-point percentage. That outside shooting helped the Fever overcome defensive struggles and reach the postseason for the first time in eight years.
But 2025 has presented new challenges. With Clark missing half the season due to quad and groin injuries, and a new coaching staff under Stephanie White, Indiana has had to reset. While the Fever have improved defensively and won the Commissioner’s Cup, their 14–12 record shows just how much they’ve missed Clark’s consistent presence and offensive leadership.
Myisha Hines-Allen: A Versatile, Proven Fit
Hines-Allen could be the ideal midseason addition. A former All-WNBA Second Team selection, she brings versatility, veteran experience, and floor-spacing ability — all valuable assets for a Fever team still finding its offensive rhythm in Clark’s absence.
Though Hines-Allen is shooting just 29.6% from three this season, her career average sits at 35%, which would still rank fourth-best on the Fever roster. At 29 years old, she offers experience without being past her prime, and her ability to play multiple frontcourt positions would ease the burden on Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard.
Potential Trade Package
Pelton projects that Indiana would send:
-
Center Damiris Dantas
-
2026 second-round draft pick
…to Dallas in exchange for Hines-Allen.
It’s a low-risk, high-upside move for Indiana, especially given Dantas’ limited role and the fact that Hines-Allen has playoff experience — including helping the Minnesota Lynx reach the WNBA Finals last season after a midseason trade.
The only concern? Hines-Allen is currently dealing with a right leg injury, which might give the Fever some hesitation. However, if healthy, she could be a critical difference-maker in the back half of the season.
Clark’s Return + Hines-Allen = Playoff Push?
With Clark rumored to return as early as August 12, adding Hines-Allen would give the Fever a deeper, more complete rotation heading into a crucial stretch of the season. Indiana currently sits sixth in the standings, with the top eight teams making the playoffs.
If Lin Dunn pulls the trigger on this trade, it could be the spark that helps Indiana go from playoff hopeful to serious contender — especially if Clark returns at full strength.
Final Thoughts
Caitlin Clark may be the centerpiece, but Indiana’s postseason hopes won’t rest solely on her shoulders. Acquiring a veteran like Myisha Hines-Allen would show the Fever are serious about building around their star now — not just in the future.
With Clark’s timeline uncertain and the deadline approaching fast, the clock is ticking. This trade could be the one that pushes Indiana over the edge in 2025.
