Caitlin Clark Steers Clear of Pop Culture Hype: “Too Cringe for Me”
While Caitlin Clark has quickly become one of the most talked-about players in the WNBA, she’s showing that not every trend is for her—especially when it comes to pop culture phenomena like Love Island.
Speaking at a Glamour x Eli Lilly event during WNBA All-Star Weekend, the Indiana Fever star revealed she tried watching the hit reality dating show but couldn’t get into it.
“I watched the first episode but couldn’t get into it,” Clark admitted. “Maybe it was too cringe for me? And it takes a lot of time; there’s a new episode like every single day! I just couldn’t do it.”
While other WNBA stars like Angel Reese and Cameron Brink are fans of Love Island, Clark is keeping her downtime more low-key. Instead of daily reality shows, she prefers to unwind with nostalgic classics like The Parent Trap, spending time on the golf course, or catching up on sleep.
“There’s no better rest and recovery than just straight-up sleeping,” Clark said, emphasizing the importance of quality rest as part of her wellness routine. She also journals and finds calm in silence or soothing music before games, opting out of the high-energy playlists many athletes use to get pumped up.
These insights came as Clark participated in an event promoting breast cancer awareness. Sponsored by Glamour and pharmaceutical company Lilly, who also sponsor the Indiana Fever, the event focused on wellness both on and off the court. A key message Clark helped amplify: detecting breast cancer early can lead to survival rates as high as 99%.
Despite her skyrocketing fame, Clark’s grounded mindset remains consistent. She’s not afraid to opt out of trends that don’t suit her, and in doing so, she’s showing fans that staying true to yourself can be just as powerful as any highlight reel.
Whether it’s skipping reality TV or avoiding hype-driven distractions, Caitlin Clark’s calm, confident approach continues to set her apart—as a player and a person.
