WNBA Fan Who Threw Naughty Toy Onto Court Has Been Identified, Facing Several Ugly Charges That You Don’t Want On Your Record

Police arrested 23-year-old Delbert Carver after he pulled a bizarre stunt during the Atlanta Dream vs. Golden State Valkyries game on July 29. The tight game, eventually a 77–75 loss for Atlanta, came to a sudden stop when the object flew in mid-play. Fans were stunned. Players were furious. Security scrambled.
Carver didn’t just face a talking-to. Clayton County police charged him with disorderly conduct, public indecency, and criminal trespass. Officers booked him Saturday, and he walked out of jail in Jonesboro on Sunday, according to online court records. His next court date hasn’t been scheduled yet, and no lawyer is listed on the county website.
The story exploded online almost as fast as the object hit the court. Conservative commentator Clay Travis jumped in with a “Free Delbert!” post on X, while Jason Whitlock joked about starting a defense fund. It didn’t help the WNBA’s mood.
“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority,” the league said in a statement. “Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk… Fans who do this face ejection, a one-year ban, and criminal prosecution.”
This wasn’t an isolated incident either. Just days later, someone threw another sex toy during the Valkyries’ road game against the Chicago Sky. Police told ESPN that no one had filed an official complaint, so they don’t expect any arrests from the incident. Still, it’s clear players aren’t laughing.
“It’s super disrespectful,” Sky center Elizabeth Williams said postgame. “I don’t really get the point of it. It’s really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.”
Fever forward Sophie Cunningham was even clear to the WNBA fans. “Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us,” she posted on X. Her message got over 3 million views in just hours.
Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison added, “ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It’s not funny. Never was.”
The league already limits what fans can bring into arenas, especially bags. But after back-to-back incidents like this, you can bet security is going to tighten up even more.
